Cole Whitt led twice for 10 laps and finished fourth to pace the JR Motorsports teams in Saturday’s Alliance Truck Parts 250 at Michigan International Speedway. Whitt took his starting spot from the outside pole and positioned the No. 88 Clean Coal Chevrolet solidly among the top-10 through the 125-lap race. With a car that was strong on restarts, Whitt took advantage of two late-race cautions and cracked the top-five, earning the team’s third top-five of the season and rookie of the race honors.

Cole Whitt, driver No. 88 Clean Coal team
“It was definitely a good race for our Clean Coal team. We were fast all weekend and I felt like we had our car trimmed out for good speed. It paid off. We were real fast by ourselves, but we struggled a little bit in the pack. It was a little wild out there at the end and it was a lot of fun. We were able to run up front until Austin (Dillon) got me loose down in turn one when we were leading. He figured out real quick that was the easy way to get around people.

“We had good restarts all day, too. Our car was strong on restarts. The last [restart], I just didn’t get the best start I could and gave up a spot. It would have been awesome to be up there fighting for the win, but for our team, we’re still seeing progress. Hopefully if we keep going at this rate we’ll be up there contending for wins.”
