Weather: Sunny; 75 deg.
Race Winner: Joey Logano
Whitt’s finish: 14th
Cole Whitt’s 14th-place finished topped the JR Motorsports teams in Saturday’s 5-Hour Energy 200 at Dover International Speedway. Debuting the No. 88 Clean Coal Chevrolet, Whitt rebounded from a starting spot deep in the field after the No. 88 team was issued a penalty for replacing its air filter following qualifying. Whitt still raced his way inside the top-10, but lost a lap when an untimely caution came after a green-flag pit stop, trapping the team a lap down. Despite its best efforts, the team never gained its lap back and concluded the day in 14th.
Cole Whitt, driver No. 88 Clean Coal team
“We started this race way behind the eight ball. We had to give up our qualifying spot and go to the rear of the field for the start after we replaced the air filter. Give our Clean Coal team credit though, we came back nicely. We had a heck of a car and worked our way back inside the top-10. We caught some bad luck when the caution came after our green-flag pit stop. It put us a lap down and we worked all race to try and get it back. We were close to the lucky dog position. We just needed another caution and it never came.”
