Cole Whitt’s 10th-place effort in the TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet paced the two-car JR Motorsports contingent in Friday night’s VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway. Whitt and the 88 team were models of perseverance after a wreck with their primary car during qualifying. The team was forced to unload the backup car and start the race at the rear of the field. Still, Whitt managed to drive inside the top-10 by the final green-white-checkered restart and battled for his fourth top-10 finish of the season.
Cole Whitt, driver No. 88 TaxSlayer.com team
“First, I’ve got to thank everyone on our TaxSlayer team. Those guys worked their tails off today. After we had to pull out the backup car, they had about two hours to get it ready for the race. Everyone from both teams chipped in and they did an awesome job.
“It was a decent race for us. We couldn’t seem to get the rear of the car down in the track like we needed. But toward the end we got inside the top-10 and had position for a good finish. A top-10 was a good effort today and it turned out to be an OK point’s day, considering. We can take that and move on to Iowa.”
